Alturas International Academy Charter School

In August 2017, the Alturas International Academy Charter School in Idaho Falls opened welcoming students to class. From a schoolhouse in the 1930s through the 1970s, abandoned for 20 years, revived to office space and back to a schoolhouse, the building has come full circle. erstad ARCHITECTS, along with Alturas International Academy and Building Hope, worked to create a modern educational facility within the historical former Junior High School. In 1999 erstad ARCHITECTS had re-designed the building, which had been abandoned for over 18 years, into office space and utilized this knowledge to transform the historic building back into a modern K-8 Charter School to serve the children of Idaho Falls.
Upgrades include ADA accessibility, a new play area, redesigning the interior to provide 30 new classrooms, revamped gymnasium, new restrooms, administrative and teacher work areas and flexible learning/library space.
