Anne Frank Memorial – Marilyn Shuler Pavilion

The Marilyn Shuler Classroom is an outdoor pavilion and learning center within the Anne Frank Memorial. The pavilion was designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing memorial space, incorporating the gabled walls of the adjacent amphitheater which are reminiscent of the rooflines of Amsterdam. Thin openings in the walls provide glimpses through the memorial, as if looking out from behind a window. Under its floating roof, the classroom provides stone bench seating and a projection screen for group storytelling, presentations, and learning opportunities. An interactive kiosk and the variety of quotes and imagery surrounding the space tell the stories of human rights violations, activists, and the spiral of injustice worldwide.
